A bit more art from my friend of many names (I think we’re using D. D. Philips at the moment but her tumblr and about everything else are under different names).

History 08: The New Empires, Part 2: Zhangi-Uru

Far to the south, the lands that had been under control of the Ibe-Wum lizardfolk found themselves suddenly without masters.  In the wake of the Sealing, the already-active volcano Tchellaryllyn experienced a massive eruption which blanketed its range and the tropical rainforest that covered its slopes in smoke, ash and debris—most of which poured north.  The lizardfolk who lived on the northern slopes were nearly wiped out by the eruption, and as those were the tribes which had dominated the humans and skinchangers of the nearby plainsland, the former social order was thrown into chaos.

History 08: The New Empires, Part 1: Ruen Wyn

After the Seals and the sinking of Lisalhan, the Ravager and Guardian parted ways.  The Guardian said that it was because of the Ravager’s choice to possess Kuthrallan and its subsequent ‘wraithification’ and reliance on arcane magic, while from the Ravager’s point of view, the Guardian had abandoned it to the wrath of the elements.  Neither would apologize, and so they separated to give the reconstruction what aid they could.

Book 1 Map Retry

After making the world-maps, I realized that my previous Book 1 map didn’t sync up well with the ‘current-age’ map, so decided to redo it off the world-map template.

The Empires

After a request for an idea of the size and placement of the empires spoken of in the histories, I did an overlay on the Before and After maps from History 07: The Sealing of the World, Part 2 to show their former areas.  See below:

History 07: The Sealing of the World, Part 2

As a wraith-mage and a constant interferer in the business of mortals, Kuthrallan Vanyaris knew his assistance would not be welcomed by the skinchanger- and spirit-folk.  Unfortunately, the Seals he wanted to create necessitated the spirits’ permission, if not their aid, and they were leery enough of the motives of human mages that any indirect overtures would only be turned away.  If he wanted to command their attention and thus be able to state his case, he would have to do so personally.

Pre-Sealing Map

I decided that since I had done the Book 1 map, and since I had reached the point in the Histories when the Seals happen, I should probably put up a map of the world before the Sealing.

Immediately before.  Maybe just minutes before.

History 07: The Sealing of the World, Part 1

At first, the three empires around Lisalhan were content to watch and laugh as their common foe was destroyed by the power it had unleashed.  Insect-like energy beings were pouring from the portal to massacre all the Lisalhanians they could find, and the portal itself seemed to be growing—but slowly, leading the three empires to believe it would stop on its own.  With the heart of Lisalhan devastated and the capital nearly annihilated, they no longer had an enemy government to target, and so they pulled their troops back to handle the sudden rush of refugees that were fleeing Lisalhan in all directions.

Mapmaking

I wanted to make a better map for book 1 than my scruffy hand-drawn thing.  So I did.

The map of pertinent territory for book 1.

The map of pertinent territory for book 1.

But I didn’t do it alone.

History 06: The Great War of Empires

From his crystal citadel in the realm of dreams, the wraithly demigod Daenivar watched the empires eye each other and saw within their suspicion an opportunity.  He did not like any of them—not even his own former land, Lisalhan, for in his absence the power had shifted away from his priests and toward a council of mages who were all too friendly with Yezadra.  Additionally, his brother’s cult was on the rise after the death of Szarnos the Bull, with many bull-folk turning to Rhehevrok’s brutal ways to seek revenge on the Death worshipers that had slain their spirit.  Upon consideration, Daenivar hit upon a plan to enmesh all these lands in mutual destruction, and began in the empire he liked least: the Divine Protectorate of Altaera.
