Book 2 Cover Process #2

First off: apologies for being away so long.  My computer monitor died, I ordered a new monitor and computer, then the monitor came but needs an adaptor, then my iPad died, and now I’m on a library computer still waiting for the adaptor and the body of the new computer to arrive.  Needless to say, I’ve been a bit out of reach.

I have gotten a lot of reading done, though!

Also, my visitors came and went, and some art was achieved, so I figured it was time to give an accounting of our progress.

Reviews, Plots, and Secrets

I was going to make three separate posts about the three topics in the title, but recent thoughts have tied them together in my head pretty thoroughly, so I might as well address them all at once.  They influence each other, after all.

Age, Anniversaries and Life Expectancy

Since yesterday was my birthday (yay me!) I have decided to take today to talk briefly about birthdays and other age-related issues on Halci.

Book 2 Extras

Looking forward to Book 2, I know it’s going to need more supplemental material than the first book had (which was just a local map).  I have a few ideas so far, but for those who have actually read the book, I’d like to know if there’s anything you want to see that I’ve missed.

Building Bahlaer, Part 1

In my previous post, I talked a bit about how I’m jealous of other people’s fancy maps.  As you probably know by now, I have lots and lots of my own maps, but the one I was specifically jealous about was a crazy-detailed map of an imaginary island nation.  I said something about wanting to make maps of my own cities–specifically Bahlaer–but not yet having anything solid.

Since I’m not one to talk about a project and then not follow it up, here’s what I’ve developed in the week since.

On Obsession (and Bahlaer)

This is partially by request of the husband of the lovely Erica Dakin (whom I link to all the time because she is awesome) and partially because it seems to be what makes my blog interesting to some people: my obsession with world details.

Titles

My compadre Erica Dakin has commented a few times on how I tend to title everything — chapters, parts, etc — so I figured I’d talk a bit about that, in regards to Book 1.

Beta Readers, Visiting and Otherwise

Apparently there have been too many maps recently (or so says my co-conspirator Erica), so as I’m not in the mood for another Influences post yet, I suppose this will be a miscellaneous non-map-related post.

Let’s see.

Gender and Sexuality, With Maps

I wanted to make some more maps but wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted them to be of, so I asked a few friends.  One of them asked for maps of fashion trends, but when I said I had no idea how to even start those, she switched her request to ones about gender, sex and marriage.  So that’s where this began.

Influences: EverQuest (and other Online Roleplaying Opportunities)

I’ve mentioned before, though briefly, that I’ve played my share of MMORPGs.  I think I should confess that the only reason I’m not still playing them (and thus slacking on my writing) is because I started raiding so much that I hurt my wrists.

And thus ended my professional off-tank career.
